Elf - Will Ferrel in tights...sexy...kind of.

Well, I got out and saw Elf the weekend it opened but I haven't gotten my ass around to reviewing it until now. Will Ferrel is one funny bastard. He could have come out with a movie called "All About Turds" and I still would have gone to see it.
Elf is the story of an orphaned human child that manages to make his way to the North Pole and is raised by the Elves there. Naturally, he soon outgrows the place and hilarity ensues. They send him back to the "real" world to find his father and his antics are enough to make you blah blah blah...
It's a pretty funny movie. Ferrel is great, as expected. It's not as shocking or funny as some of the roles he's played in other movies, like The Ladies Man or Old School, but it's a good role for him. He's a naturally goofy bastard.
There are some big, yet outdated and no longer common, names in the film that are fun to see. Ed Asner as Santa and Bob Hope as "Papa Elf." Most importantly, however, is the appearance of the one and only Kyle Gass as one of the writers working for James Caan's character in the movie. For those that don't know who Kyle Gass is, he's Jack Black's better half in The Greatest Band in the World, Tenacious D. It's good to see him doing something without Black. He's a talented tub of a man.
If you need a movie to take the kiddies or wife to and you want to enjoy yourself as well, this one is a decent choice. There are more hits than misses with the jokes and Zooey Deschanel, though not always looking particularly hot, is pretty cute in this one.
